That's very true. I agree. I just think there's a difference between
the music being new and unpredictable because the performer makes
conscious and unconscious choices about the music, and the music being
new and unpredictable because some outside agency is distorting the
signal.

And I fully understand, and can appreciate that there is an entire
school of making art that wants nothing but chaos on stage. The first
time the Dadaists tried to make chaotic poetry by standing on stage
and writing a poem by picking words out of a hat, there was a riot.
People have very strong feelings about this sort of thing. If you're
into the art of chaos, that's great. I'll never tell you that it's
bad. If you're a performer and that's what you want to do, then great.
It's a totally respectable thing to do. If you're in the audience and
you perceive chaotic elements and that enhances your experience,
that's great. But I think we know that extreme and overwhelming
elements of chaos is not what most artists are going for most of the
time. And I think it's important to respect the artist's wishes, and
to be a good listener. Part of being a good listener is not generating
noise, be it through heckling a performance, belching in the audience
during a performance, or via architecture.
