Welcome to the 'burgh! I am one of the djs at Ceremony, the longest running weekly goth/industrial night in Pittsburgh (11 years and counting). I've made a Google map listing as many "g/i" friendly clubs, bars, venues and merchants in the Pittsburgh area that I am aware of: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=111689695720494572798.00044d1c7631a23fbab37&z=12 Unfortunately, the Pghgoth list isn't as active as it once was so you may want to check out the Pghgoth Livejournal community for upcoming events and announcements as it's updated frequently. http://community.livejournal.com/pghgoth/ Ceremony also has a MySpace page that is updated more frequently than the main website (we are in the process of revamping it) at this time: http://www.myspace.com/ceremonypghofficial Hope this info helps! I also highly recommend visiting Eide's Entertainment in the Strip District. One of my co-djs (Jim) manages the industrial section there and is definitely one of the "like-minded people" you should meet. Any other questions...don't hesitate to ask! --Tara (dj MassHysteria) On Mon, Aug 11, 2008 at 9:08 PM, Bill Omer wrote: > just wanted to introduce myself. i'm new to pgh, haven't seen much of > a goth/industrial scene as of yet. i'm a big fan of skinny puppy, > velvit acid christ, pig face, tkk and the like. haven't been able to > meet any musically like-minded people since i've moved here. just > found this list, so thought i was throught i should say hello. > _______________________________________________ > pgh-goth-list mailing list > pgh-goth-list at listless.org > http://www.listless.org/mailman/listinfo/pgh-goth-list > From brian.j.parker at gmail.com Tue Aug 12 09:04:13 2008 From: brian.j.parker at gmail.com (Brian J. Yeah, if you're into "skinny puppy, velvit acid christ, pig face, tkk and the like," I think you'll be pretty happy with the kind of stock Jim keeps! And he's also just plain one of the nicest guys I've ever met-- not just "in the scene" or "in Pittsburgh," but all-around. The "Vampire Kisses" series (adapted into a TOKYOPOP manga and featured in an American Library Association promotional poster, which is how I found out about this stuff) has a similar plot, with sixteen year old goth girl Raven bagging a vampire boyfriend of her own. Are we grooming a new generation for a long-overdue goth revival? A lot of folks think the vampire stuff is a more ridiculous aspect of the subculture, but most of us have some embarrassing high school secret that was our "gateway drug" to the scene; whether it be heavy metal, vampire romance novels, or just not finding anyone else who would put up with our mopey selves. You forgot Unrequited Crush On That Girl With The Big Hair. However, I'm pretty sure it was Winona Ryder's Lydia Deetz, in Beetlejuice, that planted the seeds. I'm sure I'm not the only one disappointed by the ending of that movie. I really think emo took over the role of gothdom in teens these days. I wait to see if the two very similar scenes end up merging. On a related note, CBS' "The Early Show" this morning was extolling the virtues of men who wear makeup, and showing men how to apply their own eyeliner. -- gwen. gamergothgeek From manny at garfieldartworks.com Tue Aug 12 12:42:46 2008 From: manny at garfieldartworks.com (manny at garfieldartworks.com) Date: Tue, 12 Aug 2008 12:42:46 -0400 (EDT) Subject: The Cured (Cure tribute band) this Sat Aug 16 @ Pegasus Message-ID: <49643.70.20.72.236.1218559366.squirrel@webmail7.pair.com> live from Southern California a grand tribute to the gothic legends THE CURED http://www.thecured.net http://www.myspace.com/touringcuretributeband Sat August 16 8 pm all ages welcome admission $10 advance/$12 door @ Pegasus, 818 Liberty Ave. Downtown followed by Ceremony gothic-industrial dancing Advance tickets on sale now at: Eide's Entertainment, Paul's CDs, Wicked Discs, Dave's Music Mine, Slacker, and The Exchange Squirrel Hill.
