I'm coming back into Pittsburgh with my gf for a week, and am looking for recommendations. I had hoped the Avalon Motel would be an option, but, after talking to people, am going to stay away from that shithole as far as I can :). Nicki does not need to come frm Australia to that kinda crap lol. I'm also willing to consider cabbing it if the price is low enough. Was looking at Motel 6 for example. Have looked around online, but bus access isn't one of the things I've found. Any help would be muchly appriciated. peace, Rick From bellevue.bat at gmail.com Sun Sep 14 21:44:48 2008 From: bellevue.bat at gmail.com (Richard Claypool) Date: Sun, 14 Sep 2008 21:44:48 -0400 Subject: thanks Message-ID: <002301c916d4$a4b198b0$5f170c47@mygateway> Hi, I wanted to thank Manny and Chris for their hotel suggestions. I picked the one in the northside, and we've booked the week. It will be good to be back in pgh out of the damned south, and I'll try to hit some event or other. Problem is that Nicki doesn't like loud music, so it limits my options. As always, you guys came through with speed and impecable haist. I am now returning to the dramatized version of His Dark Materials. peace, Rick "Society is, always has been and always will be a structure for the exploitation and oppression of the majority through systems of political force dictated by an ?lite, enforced by thugs, uniformed or not, and upheld by a willful ignorance and stupidity on the part of the very majority whom the system oppresses." I dunno about Pgh, but I can tell you that I've had GREAT experiences with Hosteling International--both in Toronto and NYC.? The prices are low, they sometimes offer a do-it-yourself kitchen... as well as breakfast accomodations.? Apparently some locations even let you choose how many roommates you'd ideally like to have. I would tell you to pack lightly, to bring a padlock (for on-site lockers), and to check on late-night re-entry (if you're as nocturnal as I am, at least).? They typically do not allow alcohol on the property, but if you're smart about it, you can sneak a nice bottle of beer or wine in.? (Just leave no footprints and you'll be fine.)? My favourite part of the Toronto trip--apart from the completely plastered Irish guy who was a fixture in the tv-room--was the non-segregation by sex... and bringing my own coffee grinder and french-press thermos to have REAL coffee at the start of each day!? How strange, my first trip out of the u.s, and it won't be to Canada like I always thought. At least, the one that used to be up on Arlington - if they closed it an opened a new one somewhere else in town I have no idea. (There's never been a forwarding address posted that I saw.)
