This next two weeks is full of interesting musical & artistic events you
might want to check out.
Here's the rundown:

May 1- Erik Gorr (aka Erik Von Erik) has curated an art opening at
Garfield Artworks for the South Side-based Terminal Club of artists,
mainly featuring model drawings of subcultural denizens of the South Side
(read: goth chicks). Small donation requested but there is tons of food
and drink.
Plus the DJing of postpunk, dark rock and electronic music appropriate to
the occasion. 7- 10 pm.

May 2 - Bella Morte, Ego Likeness, Jordan Decay, Mizz Jenacyde @ Garfield
Artworks. Tickets
advance are $12, at the door $15. All ages. byob if 21. 8 pm. A Distortion
Productions joint.

May 3 - Freezepop, Hood Gang, 10 K Each @ Pegasus. Tickets advance are
$12, at the door $15.
All ages. Full bar of course. 8 pm. Another Distortion Productions joint.

May 6 - Yatagarasu, Baron Knoxburry, Bit Mummy, 8 Cylinder, Hot Mess @
Garfield Artworks.
A whole evening of 8-bit/chiptunes music featuring dudes from Texas and
Michigan plus locals.
The night will sound like one giant video game. $5. All ages. byob if 21.
8 pm.

May 8 - Obscura, Graves of Valor, Abysmal Dawn, Hero Destroyed @ 31st St
Pub (death metal).
$12 admission. Obscura are a fast-rising, brutally virtuosic technical
death band from Germany.
This show is also known as the Relapse Records "Contamination Tour". Over
21. 10 pm.

May 10 - The Berg Sans Nipple, Ghost is Dancing, Koshute Band, Jawmonster
@ Garfield (electro-pop). The BSN are an electronic indie-pop duo from
France and Nebraska. They do dreamy, beat-oriented stuff that will satisfy
fans of M83, Stereolab, The Books and Animal Collective. Also, Toronto's
TGID is a very good shoegazer band on Sonic Unyon Records. $7. All ages.
byob if 21. 8 pm.

May 11 - OffOnOff, Dave Bernabo & Assembly, Hunted Creatures @ Garfield
Artworks (experimental/avantgarde/noise) This show will be nuts. Why?
Because if you liked Last Exit and Naked City, these guys are like the
reincarnation of those bands, and this European trio OffOnOff is a
supergroup of sorts: guitarist Terrie of legendary Dutch artpunks The Ex,
bassist Massimo Pupillo of Italy's Zu (opened for Melt-Banana a few years
ago at the Brew House), and Norwegian drummer Paal Nilssen Love (of Ken
Vandermark's bands). Not dark music per se, but abrasive and noisy and
energetic. $8 advance $10 door. 8 pm. All ages, byob if 21.

May 13 - Flatfoot 56, Girlfight, Code Orange Kids, Eat The Government @ GA
(Celtic/punk)
If you're into that whole Celtic meets punk thing where the singer has a
gravelly working class
voice, there's an occasional flute or bagpipe, and lots of songs about
sollidarity and friends and drinking, these Chicago guys will fill your
mug o' Guinness methinks. $8. All ages, byomug if 21.
7 pm.

May 15 - Jozef Van Wissem, Mike Tamburo @ Wood Street Gallery (lute &
dulcimer)
It must be quite a distinction to be the world's only avant-garde lute
player, because that's what
Dutchman Van Wissem is. Combined with electronics, he can play ambient
hypnotic licks until the cows come home, and his latest albums are on
Important Records (a label which has also released
Coil, Merzbow, Michael Gira, Larsen, and others - for the dark and
industrial cred factor).
$8 students, $10 civilians. All ages. 7:30 pm. I won't stop you if bring
in something to drink.

There you go, poor babbys, enough for you to do now? Hope to see yinz there.
