I started with eMusic because I had some free songs with an old MP3
player and I also ahve a personal dislike of iTunes.  I particularly
like that eMusic seems to be the only one with no DRM at all; they
just offer high-bitrate MP3s that don't expire and can be played on
any device.

They don't have a lot of mainstream or big label music, but I don't
really listen to that anyway.

They specialize in indie music.  I've downloaded a couple of Magnetic
Fields albums, and they have pretty much everything from labels like
Matador, Kill Rock Stars, and Merge.  I don't see Royal Trux, but they
do have Jad Fair.
